Bluestone Trading Co., Inc. was started as a two-person operation in 1978 on the back of a motorcycle. With one person working the books in the office, R.B. Grampp was on the road buying used gold jewelry, pulling the diamonds and selling them to the jewelers and the gold to the refinery (back when gold was very high in price!) Eventually the diamond business seemed to take over all his time and we entered the international realm of diamond wholesale.

Today, we have over 20 people in our office and we are international buyers and sellers of diamonds and estate jewelry. We work on a memo basis with our customers. We buy and sell on a daily basis and receive import shipments on a weekly basis. Our policy of working on a small profit/fast turn-around has enabled us to keep our prices down and the growth of our active customers up, with a worldwide customer base of well over 5000.

Over the years we have seen many changes happen in the diamond industry, things have come and gone (some faster than others). We have seen gold, which was once over $800 an ounce in ‘79-‘80, drop steadily to under $300 an ounce. We have also witnessed a 1.00 carat D IF diamond once selling for over $60,000 per carat (Rapp) dropping to under $15,000 per carat. We’ve seen new shapes like Russia’s machine-cut Octagonal Rounds, only to see production end when the machine used to cut them broke. We have also seen the new Royal cuts, which are cut from flat mackle, such as the Baroness, Duchess, Empress and the Grace cut.

We have always been in the forefront with information to the jewelry industry regarding diamonds, diamond jewelry and diamond simulants, with the most recent birth of synthetic moissanite. We strive to keep everyone well informed by passing along all new information we have available.

Our CEO R.B. Grampp has been a featured speaker through out the U.S. on synthetic moissanite and was one of the first to write about it.

Through all the changes in our industry, Bluestone Trading Co., Inc. has continued to grow. We have stayed steadfast in the idea of doing what it takes to keep our customers satisfied.
