Synthetic Cubic Zirconia (CZ)
Transparent, colorless, man-made material marketed as a diamond simulant under a
number of proprietary names. It is singly refractive, with an R.I. of 2.15 and
an S.G. of 5.80; its dispersion is 0.060; and its hardness 8.25 to 8.5 (Mohs
scale). Yellow CZ is used to imitate fancy intense yellow diamonds, but CZ does
not show the 415 nm absorption line seen in fancy diamonds (although it may show
lines in the 453 nm and 478 nm areas).
